Horse Logbooks

Does my horse need a Logbook?

Novice Horse

Every horse is deemed to be of Novice horse status until the horse has successfully completed 3x 80km rides.

When you attend a ride you receive a daycard where your horses vetting details are recorded for that ride. Before you leave, the results are taken from the daycard and entered into the AERA national database where all results can be found.

You can enter as many Intermediate rides as you like using a new daycard each time, or you may wish to get your horse a Logbook and keep all their achievements in one book. (Blue logbook).

You will also need a Logbook if you are considering tackling an 80km Endurance ride.

**Note - once an official blue Novice Horse Logbook has been issued for that horse, that logbook must be used at every ride – regardless of the distance entered.

Endurance Horse

To progress from Novice horse status to Endurance horse status, the horse must have successfully completed 3x 80km rides. The AERA database will then automatically upgrade the horse status to Endurance.

You can then apply for your horses’ Novice Logbook to be upgraded to Endurance status, well done! (Yellow Logbook).

Subsequent logbooks - If you have ridden so many rides that you fill in all the pages - you can use the same form to apply for a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th Horse Logbook!
